I've created a project for my files (I find projects hard to navigate, namely no apparent way to move around without having to use the mouse, but maybe I'm missing something). Basically a bunch of WP files. > and then set the project settings to open a local website. I have the test site and the "production" site side by side, both managed under git and I'll be setting up sync to make sure I have everything under control. Then I need to find a way to sync to the ftp server (I don't have a clear idea how to do that but I'll get there eventually...)
