Just to offer a non-AppleScript suggestion :-) you could also
create an hot key-triggered Keyboard Maestro macro to activate
BBEdit and invoke the Window -> Scratchpad command directly.
[PS: I use Keyboard Maestro myself and it's a great tool.]
