I have a strange problem that just popped up. I have a file (now named "TestFile") that is an RTF (not RTFD). If I open the file, or drag it into the "My Files & Folders" list in the Multi-File search dialog, and run a search for a string in it, it will find it. But if search for the same string with the containing *folder* selected, it won't find it. This (mis)behavior doesn't happen with any other files in the folder. I tried moving the folder to another (it's now in "~/Documents"), and it didn't work there either. I ran Disk Utility and it found a "directory valence error" (which it seemed to hang on the repair, but when I restarted in Restore mode, and ran Disk Utility from that, fortunately it could). I tried copying the text to a new file (same folder), a new file (in ~/), and the error still persists.
If I convert the file to plain text instead of rtf, it does find it. Any ideas? I am using the latest Mojave Beta (10.14.4 Beta (18E174f)), which I suppose *might* be a reason. -- This is the BBEdit Talk public discussion group.
