Did you try on your mac the exact same thing you did on Linux? ie chmod a+x and try to execute it from the command line? My bet is it works. Personally, I don't think I've ever run a python script via BBedit, I always use my terminal. In any case, validate you can do it from the terminal in a "normal" way first, and then I'd suggest emailing support.
