Good afternoon folks,

We're currently working on a feature update to BBEdit 13, which includes a number of new features, as well as fixes for previously reported issues.

Testing is currently underway, and we have a stable pre-release version ready for use.

Note that this is a _pre-release_ version. The intent is to fix bugs and address areas of improvement based on what our customers have reported. However, since the software is at this point not fully tested, there _may_ be bugs and regressions.

If this prospect makes you nervous, then sticking with the public release versions is your best course of action. Nobody will be offended if you choose to do so; you're under no obligation to install and use anything but a public release. :-)

Complete change notes to date for all the pre-release builds in this cycle are available here:

  <https://s3.amazonaws.com/BBSW-download/13.1_Notes-414019.txt>

The change notes are organized into additions, changes, and fixes, and are annotated where appropriate with case numbers. So if you recognize a number corresponding to a support case that was opened for you, you can now verify that it's been fixed correctly. Please take the time to review the changes before using the new build -- it'll be worth your time.

============================================================================

Here is a list of changes since the previous pre-release version:

version 13.1 (414019) (2020-04-17)

Additions
---------

* [DOC] The `bbfind` command-line tool gains the ability to
perform Extract operations, via the "`-x`" option. See `man bbfind`
    for more information.

Changes
-------

o (none in this build)

Fixes
-----

* [NFR] [387578] Fixed crash which would occur when uploading a
file by dragging it to the FTP/SFTP browser window.

* [NFR] [382573] Fixed a bug in which live previews sometimes
couldn't load page assets when the relative link to the asset
included one or more directory traversal operations ("`../`").

* Made a change so that failed `#bbinclude` statements will leave
the existing internal contents of the include block alone, rather
than replacing them with nothing. This improves behavior when
previewing or deploying documents with legacy include statements
pointing to resources that don't exist anymore. (In the
deployment case, BBEdit will still log an error.)

* [385857] Added some armorplating (and logging) at the site of a
    nonreproducible crash.

* Fixed a bug in which file names whose extensions were in ALL
CAPS OK would not always show the correct icon in FTP/SFTP
    browser windows.

* Since the application doesn't open images anymore, if you try to open one from an FTP/SFTP browser window, BBEdit will now ask the
Finder to open the item for you.

* Fixed a bug in the Pascal color scanner, in which certain valid
hex sequences were inappropriately colored when they appeared in
    the middle of other text.

*fin*

One final note: If you run into a bug in a pre-release version, PLEASE DO NOT REPORT THE BUG TO THE LIST. This includes asking about whether others have seen the same problem. Instead, please send a bug report to <[email protected]> and we will deal with it there. This will help us keep the list discussion on topic and productive for all list members.

The package can be downloaded from our web server:

Enjoy,

R.

Someday I'll look back on all this and laugh... until they sedate me.
