When I do a search across multiple files, the top pane of the search results has little arrows to expand/collapse the results found for each file. Is there a way to "collapse/expand all"?

There is indeed: with focus in the results list, just press Command-A to select all and then the left arrow key to collapse the selected items, or the right arrow key to expand them.

(You can also use this method to collapse or expand any selected portion of the list.)
