[Currently running BBEdit version 13.5.7]

If I create a new, empty text document, saving the file will not generate
any file extension.

If I cancel the save, and then save it again, the extension “.txt” is added.

If I again cancel the save, and then save it again, the extension “.txt”
is, again, not added.

These two states (.txt or no .txt) will toggle back and forth until the doc
is saved, even after quitting and relaunching BBEdit.

Is there a way to get BBEdit to automatically add a default, “.txt” file
extension when saving (File/Save) a new text document?

I searched this list and the User Manual with no luck. I couldn’t find
anything in BBEdit Expert Preferences and “defaults write
com.barebones.bbedit DefaultLanguageNameForNewDocuments -string "Text
File"” didn’t help.

Blessings, and thank you!
