On Wednesday, February 12th, Kelvin Ng, from Network Appliance, will
present the new NetApp FAS 900 series filer.
The meeting will be held in MIT E51-149; introductions, news, and job
announcements starting at 7:00 p.m.; presentation at 7:30; beer
afterwards (maybe).
Here's the abstract:
Network Appliance has introduced a new series of filers, the
FAS 900. The FAS 900 is a powerful upgrade to the existing 700
and 800 series of filers, including more powerful hardware and
software. New hardware features include multiple PCI-X slots,
Infiniband clustering interconnect, an integrated remote
management processor, an improved chassis for even faster
servicing, and significant capacity and bandwidth
improvements.
New software features include the ability to support truly
converged, multiprotocol access to the same set of disks at the
same time (or however the administrator chooses to configure
the system). With the FAS 900, NetApp provides the ability to
support NFS, CIFS, SAN (blocks), DAFS, HTTP and VLD (a blocks
emulator for Windows) all on the exact same hardware and
software at the same time. And it's all still simple to set up
and operate.
Kelvin Ng, a NetApp Systems Engineer based in Waltham, MA, will
supply an overview of these new hardware and software features
and answer your questions. Kelvin will also welcome your
feedback about the new gear and about NetApp in general.

This is an exciting new product from NetApp; I encourage everyone to
attend.
