I am looking for an alternative location or solution for my personal
mail/web server. I currently have a 1U Linux box at a colo which
acts as my mail server and hosts a couple of low volume web sites for
friends. Traffic for this system is extremely light.
Basically, I'm looking for a Linux box on the net that:
* is fairly inexpensive
* I have full control over
* has some expectation of "uptime", e.g. Better than "home ISP" levels.
The two alternatives I am currently looking at are:
Slice Host, http://www.slicehost.com/. For $20+ per month they will
provide a dedicated XEN domain.
Moving the 1U to my home and upgrading my net connection to some form
of, so called, "business class" service.
My questions for the group are:
1) Does anyone have any experiences with Slice host they would care to share?
2) Any recommendations for an inexpensive, local (Boston area) colo
that would host a single 1U system?
3) Any recommendations for a dedicated host provider?

Thank you everyone who replied. The following is a summary of the
options I received:
Co-Lo:
Alienwebshop, http://www.alienwebshop.com/ The person running the
bblisa.org systems hosts it here.
Av8, http://www.av8.net/, Dean Anderson is a regular on the bblisa list.
Dedicated hosts:
ServerBeach, http://serverbeach.com/
The Planet, http://www.theplanet.com
TWS, http://www.twshosting.com/
Dedicated Virtual Hosts:
http://www.slicehost.com/
http://www.linode.com/
From the Paul Vixie "personal colo list" (Thanks Andrew):
TowardEX, http://www.towardex.com/
CluefulColo, http://www.cluefulcolo.com/
Cambridge Bandwidth Consortium, http://www.cambridge.bandwidth-consortium.us/
I've decided to give SliceHost a try. It's much less expensive than
the alternatives and appears to be able to meet my simple
requirements.
