Oh yeah, this is a tough one.  But common.  I frequently refer to this

Great document, and it is what I used to finally get things working - to the point they do.


In particular, remember to edit /etc/sysconfig/yppasswdd    (Only change the
etc line.  Not the passwd and shadow line.)
And then use "yppasswd" instead of "passwd"

If you're still stuck, I think the system creates log messages somewhere
under /var/log.

The logs didn't show much.
