Years ago, I would have agreed with Steve and David. Check all your components, use linux-laptops.net, etc etc. It was really painful and tedious, a lot of work...
But in recent years, simply use Ubuntu on a common laptop, and it works perfectly. Particularly Dell, and Lenovo. But my personal experience says Dell Precision (that's what I am using right now.) Brainless, effortless setup.
