Sun (when they were still Sun) came here 6 months ago and claimed they were
doing SPARC-Solaris IaaS cloud offerings, but I sure can't find it on their web
site.

Ahhh... The tricky part is not how to install solaris 8 ... The tricky part is
emulating the sparc processor on intel hardware. Maybe I have to buy a modern
sparc system... Or more likely, I'm back to getting an old $150 box from
craigslist instead of a new $10k server that'll be used for 20 minutes a year
...

Does anybody offer Sparc cloud servers? Rent a box for 1 hour, pay Two
Dollars. That would be nice... I'll have to poke around and see if I can find
somewhere now ...

I have seen some articles suggesting qemu for sparc emulation, and I've seen as
many articles saying how horribly it doesn't work. I think I'll try it at
least a little bit, so I can say I made the effort, didn't leave that stone
unturned ...

Hi Ned,

The "official" way is to install a Solaris 8 container within Solaris 10. Note
that this is a commercial solution - you have to pay for S8 support and S10
support on the box on which you do this.

Working at semiconductor companies, it seems to be a common request, that we
need to obtain some sparc solaris 8 machine to run a memory compiler. In the
past, I've solved this by begging local IT depts for their garbage, and build
one of these machines. I'd very much like to improve this.

Does anybody know of any way to create a sparc solaris 8 machine modern day?
Whether virtual or otherwise ... Preferably virtual.

Thanks.
