Yes. I tried disabling preempt in 2.6.18-rc2 and removed the
BADNESS_LIMIT hack, but the driver still stopped working after a few
hours. (In linus kernel, this also causes a hard lockup a few seconds
after the driver stops working. I think this is because that kernel
doesn't yet include the "init routine rewrite" patch.)

I just booted a linville wireless git tree kernel with these changes.
Now I'll just have to wait a few hours to see what happens.
