Believe it or not but that simplified version (from Michael) does not fix it
for me:
Oct 29 04:12:03 yavin kernel: SoftMAC: Start scanning with channel: 1
Oct 29 04:12:03 yavin kernel: SoftMAC: Scanning 14 channels
Oct 29 04:12:03 yavin kernel: NETDEV WATCHDOG: wlan0: transmit timed out
Oct 29 04:12:03 yavin kernel: bcm43xx: select_wireless_core: cleanup
Oct 29 04:12:13 yavin kernel: NETDEV WATCHDOG: wlan0: transmit timed out
Oct 29 04:12:18 yavin kernel: NETDEV WATCHDOG: wlan0: transmit timed out
Oct 29 04:12:23 yavin kernel: NETDEV WATCHDOG: wlan0: transmit timed out
Oct 29 04:12:28 yavin kernel: NETDEV WATCHDOG: wlan0: transmit timed out
Oct 29 04:12:33 yavin kernel: NETDEV WATCHDOG: wlan0: transmit timed out
Oct 29 04:12:38 yavin kernel: NETDEV WATCHDOG: wlan0: transmit timed out
Oct 29 04:12:43 yavin kernel: NETDEV WATCHDOG: wlan0: transmit timed out
Oct 29 04:12:48 yavin kernel: NETDEV WATCHDOG: wlan0: transmit timed out

And this appears every five seconds. I did not reboot though, just manually
reloaded the bcm43xx driver with modprobe. I'll see how it behaves after a
complete reboot.

My kernel seems to crash, too, as my keyboard is not usable in X anymore that
morning (mouse is still usable), removing and reinserting the WLAN card does
not bring it up again and shutdown does not work anymore. However, nothing
under /var/log (no ooops message or such).
But it also crashed without including the patch.
