Thanks for the info, it explains more than the error in dmesg. Although 
I believe the signal should have been good, only a few meters away and 
in line of sight.

If I get the chance to roll a custom kernel, I will test it and get back 
to you. My network quota is rather restricted where I am currently, so 
it might take a while to get all the packages.

Otherwise I will just give it another six months to stabilize and get in 
mainline.
