I have had this problem after moving from AP1 to AP2 (same ESSID, different channels, same WEP key).

Try this:
1) Kill the network manager :)

2) sudo iwevent &

3)
sudo modprobe -r b43
sudo moprobe b43

If it doesn't bring the interface up automatically:
4) sudo ifup [interface-name-here, like eth1 or wlan0 or whatever]
