I'm sorry that I mislead you earlier. Your original kernel was loading the 
driver just fine, as is
the patched one. You have some kind of BIOS problem that is preventing the 
routing of IRQ's. Please
look carefully at the output of the 'dmesg' command and try all the things it 
suggests.
