I'm not sure why you are asking me, since I'm not experiencing any major
problems now.

bcm4318 is working for me with or without SMP.  PAE is not enabled.
That's the latest wireless-testing kernel.  Both the old and the new 4.x
firmware is working fine.  I tried removing the antenna, but it's still
working (the link quality is lower, of course).

If you have kernels that work and those that don't work, it's a good
starting point.

I would try to capture packets going in both directions on a separate
machine, note the signal strength, then load ndiswrapper with Windows
drivers, capture the packets and compare the results.  It's very
important that you don't even touch any antenna between measurements or
reorient anything.
