Hello,

* Problem

I've recently installed Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty and my Broadcom 4318 wireless card
connects, but keeps disconnecting. The problem seems to have been discussed
at length but I can't solve the problem. The error in dmesg is as follows:

[  837.189972] b43-phy0 ERROR: PHY transmission error

* What I've done

I read this post:
http://lists.berlios.de/pipermail/bcm43xx-dev/2008-October/008294.html

I therefore decided to try and upgrade the firmware. The link mentioned in
the post:
ftp://ftp.linksys.com/opensourcecode/wrt610n/1.00.00.018/wrt610n_v1.00.00.018_us.tgz

no longer works, so I looked around for more upto date firmware by Googling
for the existing file that my install script downloads: wget
http://downloads.openwrt.org/sources/broadcom-wl-4.178.10.4.tar.bz2

I found this list of sources: http://downloads.openwrt.org/sources/

I've tried downloading the broadcom-wl-4.178.10.4.tar.bz2 and
broadcom-wl-4.150.10.5.2.tar.bz2 and broadcom-wl-4.150.10.5.1.tar.bz2, but
when I run fwcutter, I see this:

b43-fwcutter --unsupported -w /lib/firmware/ broadcom-wl-4.178.10.4/linux/wl.o
Sorry, the input file is either wrong or not supported by b43-fwcutter.
This file has an unknown MD5sum 2dd738b8feb8b3559fd9d8fbaf3bfffc.

b43-fwcutter --unsupported -w /lib/firmware/
broadcom-wl-4.150.10.5.2/driver/wl_apsta_mimo.o
Sorry, the input file is either wrong or not supported by b43-fwcutter.
This file has an unknown MD5sum b6d32979ad3fdd8ce5c3ec806ebec757.

If it helps:

b43-fwcutter -v
b43-fwcutter version 011

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks,

John
