Hello I recently came upon this list after searching google for an error code i received (b43 phy0: fatal dma error). I was able to read a few of the archive posts but didn't see if the issue had been resolved. I believe I have the same trouble as Larry Finger discussed between September and November of this year. I have a Dell Inspiron 910 mini netbook running Ubuntu 9.10 netbook remix. The card initially worked without much trouble but at some point after installing compat-wireless, installing and using b43fwcutter, applying patches from the aircrack-ng team, and following various tutorials online the card has stopped functioning properly. The symptoms vary, right now when I start the netbook, it attempts to associate to my wifi network but is unable to associate, then if I attempt to disable the wireless and switch the card into monitor mode the system hangs. Have any advice? I guess plan B would be to buy an atheros on ebay...
