I am not that familiar with Red Hat.  Don't you have a php-mysql-* rpm
on your installation media?  If I were you, I would first look in
there.

If you want to download the rpm, you have to make sure the RPM is for
Red Hat version 8.0.  Which is, by the way, quite old.

Installing from source is a good idea.  Actually, in a production
environment connected to the Internet, you will want to install php
from source.  That's because when a security hole or bug is found, it
takes the vendors some time to release updated RPMs.  You don't want
to keep your server vulnerable during that time.

About removing those two dependent RPMs, this is your server, you
should know if you have an PHP application that works with IMAP or
LDAP.  php-imap-* is mostly used by webmails like IMP and
squirrelmail.  php-ldap-* is rarely used.
