Linux.org.BD mirror server would contain a wide selection of open source
software for download. This would give Bangladeshi Linux users an easy
access point to many large downloads, such as Linux distributions and
other open source software like OpenOffice.org and Mozilla.
The mirror server will make regular copies of the files from the master
source, and this will often be carried out on a daily basis. Only those
files will be transfered which have been updated since the previous
copying operation.
The principal beneficiaries of the mirror server are the local users,
since the speed of delivery of information is increased for them. Since
all of the major ISPs are connected to BDIX, the mirror server would
also diminish the number of accesses to the master server, decreasing
its work load, and further reduces the traffic on the over congested,
critically slow sections of the network.
The server would primarily be maintained, entirely by Volunteers, negating the need for
employing outside personnel, also further reducing costs needed to maintain the server.
