Hi Everyone,
One of the problems new contributors faced in Bangla Wikipedia
(http://bn.wikipedia.org ) was the unavailability of a Bangla Typing
system. They had to use Avro or other external typing tools to write
Bangla text. Often, when one is in office or elsewhere, this was not
possible, as it involved installing a software, or doing it in some
other website and cutting pasting the content.

Last week, we have enabled built in Bangla typing in Bangla Wikipedia.
Arnab Zaheen, one of the active administrators and architects of
Bangla Wikipedia, has modified the Cyrillic wikipedia transliteration
scripts to suit Bangla typing, and has created the necessary
mappings/settings to include it in the Edit box.

So, the bottom line is, you can now type in Bangla without installing
any software. When you click on edit at any page, you'll see a "Check
box" at the top of the edit window. Press ESC and the check box will
be enabled, moving you into Bangla typing mode. Again press escape,
and you will move into English mode.

If you don't see the edit box, please press CTRL-F5 or refresh to make
sure you cache gets cleaned.

The external tools, like Avro/Likhon etc, will continue to work as before.

The built-in typing system uses phonetic key mappings, for the time being.

The system is still under construction, and has some documented bugs,
but Zaheen is improving it regularly. Thanks to him for adding this
feature.

With regards,

Ragib
