Hi Everyone, I have created a flickr photo pool for Bangla Wikipedia.
Please visit: http://www.flickr.com/groups/bangla_wiki/ The goal is to organize the collection of photos under a free license (such as Creative commons Attribution or Attribution-ShareAlike license). Anyone can join the group and add photos from their album (i.e. photos they have taken) to the group pool. As mentioned above, the photos must be in either of the above licenses. (adding to the pool is quite easy, just open the photo, and click on the link "Send to group". It will show groups you are member of, and you only have to click on the "Bangla Wikipedia" group to send to the pool). Once a photo is added to the pool, it will be later uploaded to Wikimedia commons, and added to Bangla and English wikipedia articles, with full attribution to the original photographer. Note that, this removes the hassle of how to upload to commons under a compatible license. No, you don't have to worry about that anymore. If you have a nice photo in your flickr account, and want to give it to Bangla Wikipedia, just add it to the group pool for Bangla Wiki at http://www.flickr.com/groups/bangla_wiki/ . We will take care of the rest. Let me give a small example of how much impact your one photo can have ... if you look into the article Shaheed Minar in en-wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shaheed_Minar ), you'll see a nice pic of the Shaheed Minar. This was taken by a German NGO volunteer named Karl Roehl. I got permission from him to use this ... and now, this photo has been included in articles in 20+ different languages, and read by millions of people all around the world. No photo you ever take will reach such a big audience, so please, take photos of Bangladesh, locations you visit, and add them to the flick pool mentioned above. Since photographers will be given full credit for the photos, your name will potentially be read and your photo appreciated to millions of people .... imagine that!!
