Compiz and Beryl are super cool! First I tried installing compiz in my Debian Etch with the following instructions: http://technowizah.com/2006/10/debian-how-to-aiglx-compiz.html
Worked like a charm. It didn't have so many cool eye-candy plugins as Beryl, but works well on my Intel's built in i810 graphics controller, at work. But when I saw Mozammel's Beryl, I just had to install that. But Beryl, with all its plugins firing, really takes its toll on the i810. So I installed it on my home pc with nVidia (it did take some effort to get the nVidia drivers working). Results are outstanding. And Beryl's plugin manager is very user friendly, whereas in compiz you have to use the gconf-editor. Here are the instructions I used: http://technowizah.com/2007/02/debian-how-to-aiglx-beryl.html http://wiki.beryl-project.org/wiki/Install/Debian This video gives me some ideas on customizing the beryl plugins to try out at home. :) This is a great way to convince your wife to drop windows. :D Although there are some installation hiccups, but once you get it working, its well worth the effort (its mainly due to the graphics card driver issues).
