Just like to share my experience with beryl.
Its Fantastic!!
One needs to download all beryl packages (or use apt-get if internet is
available), edit some in the xorg.conf, and uninstall compiz (if installed).
and re-login with beryl-manager in startup programs. Voilla!
Now your desktop will be something you have never imagined! Its outstanding!
Shadows, transparent title bar, wobble, window-list with F8 (this is so cute),
grab-n-pull effect (fantastic), beautiful window decor, desktop rotation, and
many many more.
Beryl runs under gnome/kde, and if you haven't tried it, just give it a shot.
