#wvdialconf

it should find the modem if driver is present. 
edit the /etc/wvdial.conf


change the phone no to dial (as u give in win XP)

you can use the "wvdial" tool which is a intelligent Point-2-Point

dialer (actually better than original soft - reconnects automatically

when dc ;-) ). but you have to find out the parameters of your modem.

then you have to write commands using them in "/etc/wvconfig" text

file. you can easilt google out it ...
