Bob Pike at Pike Agri-Labs suggests a trio of measuring devices necessary to keep tabs on how things are going. In addition to the refractometer, to measure brix, he also recommends a conductivity meter, to measure ion uptake, and a PH Ion Meter to help in determining elements that might be out of balance.
