Reporting to the Director of Gift Planning, this senior-level development professional will be responsible for actively promoting gift planning among ACLU members and donors, nationwide, through an on-site, face-to-face cultivation and solicitation program in cooperation with 50+ affiliates across the country. ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES Reporting to the Executive Director and working in concert with the senior management team, the Program Director will have overall responsibility for the planning and management for all LCHR programs and will serve as an advisor to the Board on program and policy. Armed with a deep understanding of and commitment to human rights, the program director will have two primary responsibilities: to provide strong conceptual leadership to LCHR efforts to protect the human rights of vulnerable individuals and groups worldwide; and to manage the operations of LCHR programs. Specific responsibilities include: Strategy and Program Development � As a member of the senior management team, participate in the development of LCHR's long-term organizational strategies and goals. � Determine program directions and priorities based on analysis of needs and opportunities, staff input, and LCHR's strategic plan. � Develop annual program plans, including benchmarks to measure effectiveness. QUALIFICATIONS LCHR is seeking a Program Director with energy and commitment who is able to fully articulate and support the mission and values of the organization. This person must share a passion for both the cause and the organization. Strong leadership and decision making skills are critical to success in this position. The successful candidate should have a proven ability to encourage team work and collaboration and inspire commitment to common goals among many individuals and peer organizations. It is important that the new Program Director be able to communicate effectively and persuasively in a variety of forums. The successful candidate will be experienced in management and budgeting, advocacy, planning and program design, development and implementation. Candidates should be able to demonstrate the capacity to manage a complex organization in a manner that is progressive and consistent. Candidates should have an in depth understanding of the legal, political, economic and public policy issues related to human rights as well as a working knowledge of local, national and international political systems. Experience operating in both international and U. S. settings is required. An advanced degree is preferred.
