Friends - I have a couple of recordings by Will and Sally that are of great interest to this group. Each is about 1 hour long.
I'd very much like to post them to the webpage so they could be listened to via streaming technology, most likely QuickTime. Setting up a streaming server with the information I have currently is going to be more expensive and more hassle than I had ever dreamed, so I wanted to check with the net use habits of BD Now! members before I procede. At the bottom of this post I've also asked for your help and suggestion. Thanks _Allan Some questions: 1. Can you use QuickTime files from your platform? (Windows, Linux, Mac, ?) (It is a given you can listen to them from a Mac) Do you have any objections to QuickTime files? 2. Can you use RealPlayer files from your platform? 3. Is the feature of being able to listen to a lecture in realtime via the web worthwhile to you? 4. Would you prefer to download portions of a lecture as mp3s and listen to them off-line? (If this is the case, how large would you like to have the files? 1 hour of audio is running about 50mb) YOUR HELP NEEDED I vote for streaming the lectures. I think it is a lot less time consuming for the listener and I think it is an elegant solution. If many people do not want to tie up their computers while they listen to a lecture or do not have an appropriate bandwidth for realtime, I am open to 'serving' the files both ways: realtime AND chunked for download. What I need from list members is: Do you have the technological background to advise me on how to set these files up? Do you know an ISP or organization that may host these files for us? This is urgent, folks, because the season is just getting underway here. When my 'help' arrives in about 10 days, I won't have time to do things like this until November. Contact me through the list or off-line at [EMAIL PROTECTED] THANKS!!!
