My guess is that the flys are enjoying some good life supporting energy. We
note this with also Towers of Power, Kites etc. Sheep and cattle will go out
of their way to camp close to them and to rub on them. It seems that wooden
rails are best to protect them, rather than the wire fences used in Oz.
Kangaroos have a habit of  a siesta in the afternoon heat (very civilized!).
On Dean Gentlin's BD farm, he has four or five "towers", the largest in sight
of the house. Most afternoons, there is an extended family of 'Roos resting
around it.
