Rural Center for Responsible Living has developed this on-line publication with special thanks to the Howe Charities for their generous grant support.

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is alive and growing in the state of Kentucky, representing a farm centered, relationship based marketing effort built out of trust, mutual respect and a quality product. Customers, often called shareholders, make a financial commitment to the farm for the duration of the growing season, in turn the farmer provides a weekly supply of the farm's products. Each farm sets it up a little bit different, thus creating an ideal distribution system based out of a mutual agreement between farmer and customer, not bottom line prices and the desperate need to move a perishable product.

Eleven farms are profiled and more are being added. Each CSA has contributed a story as unique and individual as the farm itself. Consumers are empowering the country side with their caring support and food dollars, farmers are enriching  the lives of urban people by providing access to quality fresh food and an opportunity to have a connection with a farm. People eat healthy, and farmers are supported for their proper husbandry.

Rural Center for Responsible Living believes that these noble efforts deserve as much visibility as possible. We hope this profile will inspire more people to look for a CSA in their area, or better yet, initiate one.

Farmer narratives, full length articles and photos paint a picture of agricultural role models who are helping to preserve small farms of Kentucky for the future.

<<Rural Center for Responsible Living is a non-profit organization located
on a working biodynamic farm in southern Kentucky. Organic and biodynamic
farming and gardening, small- scale agriculture and local food production
are essential to the health and vitality of both urban and rural
communities. We teach practical hands on gardening methods that eliminate
the need for toxic chemicals, while working to develop consumer awareness
regarding the state of agriculture in the world today through on-farm
classes, publishing, media projects and outreach. >>
