Hi All,

A descriptive article on the Schatz Inversion Mixer was published in
Biodynamics #236 (July/August, 2001). No, as far as I know it has never been
used in biodynamics, but I believe that the Porter Institute are
contemplating doing tests with one. Briefly, the mixer resulted from
indications that Steiner gave in a lecture to physicists in the early
twenties, in which he mentions the relationship between the Zodiac and the
Platonic solids, especially the cube, saying that if this were explored an
important discoveyr would be made in the realm of motion. The late Paul
Schatz, an anthroposophist living in Drnach, undertook to follow these
indications and developed a machine he call the 'Turbula' which proved to be
the missing element in powder mixing technology and is now used world-wide
in numerous difficult mixing applications. It is now made in Switzerland,
and in China, but my small company, Inversion Machines Ltd. in Canada, is
the only North American manufacturer. We make them to order, and are just
now finishing a 10 gallon unit for DuPont.

The Inversion mixer does not create a vortex like a stirring machine does,
what it does do is create a lemniscatary form of motion which Paul Schatz
believed to be very closely akin to the etheric realm, one has to see the
mixer operating to understand this, they are very beautiful to watch.

The discovery of the inversion kinematic only came after Steiner's death. I
personally think that had it been around earlier he would have recommended
its use in biodynamics. However, traditionally these mixers have been very
expensive. We are working, in our spare time, on making a much-less
expensive version for agricultural use.

Best wishes,

Don Cruse
