The plants were set in too close.  I am not in control of the planting and 
they are just too close.  by the time the vines are setting flowers there is 
no space where you can see the ground on at least two acres.  The mildew has 
taken care of that and the vines with the new growth looks healthy. I would 
separate the plants much more and deal with the weeds...sstorch
