Yes I was referring to hand planted tube stock which I
assumed was what Liz's friend lost. You are surely on the right track with
direct seeding which is after all how nature did it in the first place
(still does) - trouble is for many years in NSW at least the forestry
department ( / Ag / lands now) was the major supplier of tube stock trees -
and generated a lot of money from it - they still run at least three major
nurseries supplying trees to farmers and landcare - along with that they are
the major source of wisdom and advice - there has been almost ZERO effective
work done by these official people in the area of direct seeding - some
farmers are figuring it out themselves - but no thanks to the people that
ought to be the most help!
