Organic selenium approved for feeds
LEXINGTON, KY. -- The U.S. Food & Drug Administration has approved the registration of Alltech's Sel-Plex organic selenium for use in pig and turkey feeds, according to an announcement. Alltech said FDA had already approved the product for broilers and layers in 2000. The tests scrutinized by FDA included efficacy tests in large-scale animal groups, safety of the product, manufacturing process and quality control, Alltech said. The company noted that Sel-Plex contains 1,000 parts per million total selenium, with more than 98% present as selenomethionine and selenocystine, the biologically active forms of selenium. 2002 Feedstuffs, Miller Publishing Company. |
