Is this the male version of a cycladic idol? I made a nude angel
statue one
time that turned out to be older than a cherub, and was told that I couldn't
put it in a show. I gave it to a friend who liked it for her garden.

I've made two fox squirrel statues from life using warm road kill. A
nun I
know wanted one for the convent where she lived. She chose the female. It
was real obvious which was which, not only by genitalia, but by the
build on
these two animals. I was very true to life.

I'm in the craft circuit, Gil. In my little town I market animal
figures with expressions reminiscent of my golden retrievers. I had
some plaques which said, "My karma ran over my dogma." Everybody
commented on them, but I only sold one.

You're talking about real art...When I was at the Global Justice Action
Summit, they had an artist option which I'm so glad I took. There's a
sculptor from Helena, Montana, who does small bronzes in a sort of rustic,
flowing style. His slides were dynamite. I remember one which he said
was a
man reading a newspaper at a bus stop. The man's briefcase on the
sidewalk beside him was a dead body, with the idea that we are all
responsible for what our government does. It was very tastefully done.
Clay is wonderful in the way you can suggest something with a lump here
and a depression there. It's an objective correlative. We read between
the lines and bring our life
experience to what we see in a statue or in a poem.

See you at the Conference!

Best,

Merla
