Per Garp - Fig trees (at least in my part of the world, southern UK) are more of a large shrub than a tree; much of the foliage and fruit would be easily accessible to sheep etc. The bark is quite tender - mice have chewed away at the one in my garden. Maybe in commercial fig orchards things are different? Tony N-S.
