Dear Friends, below is a note from our dear friend, and fellow organic farmer Jeff Poppen, also know on Nashville public TV as the BareFoot Farmer, he has a beautiful 300 acre farm that has been certified Biodynamic for 16 years. Please take out your maps and decide if you can take a drive to Trousdale County, TN. If not, take a minute and phone the court house. Telephone: (615) 374-2906

There is a proposal to build a uranium enrichment facility 25 miles south of our farm. Right now the decision rests in the hands of the 20 Trousdale County TN commissioners who are being wined and dined by the proposers.

If you oppose the nuclear power industry, please consider doing me a big favor. Come on out to the Trousdale County courthouse around dusk on Monday, November 25th. 20 local folks are either going to zone land M3 or not. M3 zoning includes radioactive waste, hazardous chemicals and other toxic materials, and the possibility of a 1.1 billion dollar plant which processes uranium ore to make nuclear fuel. The Trousdale County commissioners need to understand that despite the money, we don’t want it.

Enough public pressure now will nip this in the bud, like it did in the other two counties this company wanted to locate in. once it leaves local peoples control, the fate of this land is in jeopardy. On November 7th, we witnessed the Trousdale County planning commission listen to Bob Rochelle, lawyer for this company (LES), threaten them that the plant wouldn’t come if they didn’t rush in the proposed zoning permit immediately. The large crowd obviously made an impression because they voted to table the recommendation for the time being.

If they vote to rezone it on November 25th, the fight to stop it will move on to much higher levels of government. We’ll be gathering on November 25th at 5:00 p.m. at the courthouse in Hartsville to have an old-fashioned rally. We’re working on a newspaper this week to hand out on November 19th and 20th at public meetings in Hartsville and Lafayette, respectively.
