Ah, the delicate crunch of a deep fried grasshopper, dipped in chocolate sauce. If you try them, let us know how they taste. I can't get past the fact that grasshoppers 'spit tobacco', whatever that yucky brown slime is, it's sour smelling and it would be hard to get past that to eat one.
Bug behavior: This summer a nest of red wasps built in between the double panes of my bathroom window. I was surprised to see them foraging for those BIG grasshoppers and hauling them back to the nest. They only chose the heads though. The rest of the body is way too big for a wasp to carry, so I guess they picked the most nourishing part. I also saw both yellow jackets and red wasps catching large moths and carrying them up into the big pecan trees. Watering the horses, I hooked up two hoses to reach all the tubs. Where the connections join there was a small leak, only an occasional drip so I left it alone. Every afternoon I'd turn the hose on at the connection (drip line), and a big swarm of bees would be drinking from it. I'd have to dust them off to get to the connection but they never offered to sting.
