I've tried too to grow nettle from seed long ago, but didn't use the best
medium or info which i now have. ...seeding times, etc.
I do remember some wisdom about usually finding a patch of nettles around
old (undisturbed soil) rusting farm machinery....because of the iron
presence imparted to the soil.
The few plants which i did propogate i then transplanted into a 3/4 sunny
spot, near a tree row, after i had sprinkled a cup of steel filings a few
weeks beforehand to "condition" the soil. They thrived, but never got as
high as the original large patch from where i took the seed.
