Two big-city wannabee "farmers" read a book on biodynamics and decided to
buy land so as to take up the venerable art of BD farming.
They did manage to get a few rows of seed planted. One day one came home
with some chickens from the feed store. Not being sure what to do, they
reviewed the Maria Thun calendar and decided to plant the chickens in the
ground headfirst at a certain phase of the moon.
The chickens died.
Undeterred, they bought a second batch of chickens, studied the calendar
more intently, and this time planted the chickens feetfirst.
The second chickens died as well, albeit much more slowly.
Thoroughly confused at this point, they wrote the USDA to get the
government to help. They went into great detail telling exactly how they
had planted the chickens. Just to be sure, they sent a copy of the letter
to the county extension service.
A week later they got replies from each agency. Both said, "Before we can
advise you, please send us a soil sample."
