In Oz we catch all the rain water off our roofs we can. Peafowl roosting on the ridge may look great, but not good for the drinking water. Have you seen the damage they can do the paintwork on a new car if they catch sight of themselves?
Gil - Thank goodness, in South Wales we get more than enough rain (and we have a year-round spring of pure water as well as the public supply), so we can afford to run roof catchment to waste. I seem to remember that minor oil-pollution of some Australian rivers has been put down to people cleaning the tidemark around their bath with kerosene to save water?
Strangely, the peafowl never bothered with their reflection in paintwork or wing mirrors; but a raven we kept was a whiz at stripping out wiper blades and door-seal rubber strips! Also, male finches have the habit of attacking their mirror images, scratching and fouling (?fowling) the part of the car they're perching on.
