To whom it may be of a concern

I ve found Lievegood and Glen Atkinson s concepts of primary and secondary processes helpful, but still find it hard to sort out what s happening.

The primary cosmic silica forces from the outer planets work down into plants (enhanced by 501?) and into the soil, are held by silicate rocks in the earth, then clay facilitates their uptake into the plant  by the Secondary Si process, giving form and pulling the plant upwards how?  through activating auxins ?

The primary (I would have said earthly) silica forces of the outer planets work upward from deep within the earth, and yes, they are enhanced by 501. I would have said the secondary (cosmic) silica forces (still of the outer planets) work downward from the atmosphere into the plant through the 508 (horsetail). But as I said, Glen has this figured out better than I do. I heretofore have been lost both in Steiner's explanations and Glen's.

Thanks Hugh for writing  your post.  You provide a great picture to be with.

With regards the above there is a bit of a confusion of words going on here. Your use of the words 'primary and secondary silica forces' are being used in a different manner to  how I and I believe Lievegeod has presented them.

Your use of the names cosmic and earthly and primary and secondary are as one would expect them to be from the apparant experience of nature, however if we look at Lievegeod he gives indications which suggest we need to look further.  One would expect Cosmic Silica to be coming in the atmosphere and Earthly Si from the Earth however does primary translate into Earthly and does secondary translate into Cosmic.

All the words used in this discussion are most confusing and I find it better to draw pictures, than try and describe it all, and so hence my books at my website. Please refer to the chapter " Biodynamic Plant Growth" http://rimu.orcon.net.nz/garuda/books/index.html . In Biodynamics Decoded.

One of the primary issues I see is happening in Hughs combining of his perceptions and mine can be resolved once we see in the chapter I have outlined the way the forces work at the different layers of manifestations spiral. To observe plant growth as RS describes I have found it necessary to clearly differentiate teh activites of each level , 2 fold, 3 fold, 4 fold etc.

Hugh talks a lot about how the forces work at level 2 and level 3, however from there he is becoming confused.

In the book I have described how we have to sets of polarities. What I call a macro polarity which lives in the World bodies of creation and then a micro polarity which mainifests as the way the forces work internally in lifeforms.

Level 2 - which exists externally to our human forms.ie we are not androgonous or bisexual we are monsexual and we need an external partner to mate with to produce life. Once we internalise the level 2 of polarity fully we will be androgonous hermaphidites. The point is at this level we have the Cosmic pole in polarity to the Earthly pole.

in this instance I see the Cosmic as the male Si stream up the spiral via the nerve sense system , the elements of light and warmth adn the outer planets, while the Earthly is the female Calcium stream through the mode (3) of metabolism, elements of Water and Earth and the inner planets. see the chart http://rimu.orcon.net.nz/garuda/BDDecoded2.gif

So at level 2 we have a Cosmic and Earthly. These should that not be mixed up with the use of Cosmic and Earthly later on up the spiral.
Hugh talks alot about level 3 in his descriptions of 500 501 and horn clay. He also describes level 4s interaction in this process as well, however some confusion appears, be it only in the use of the words possibly.  We are saying essentially the same thing, although Hugh so eloquantly adds the details.

Once we come to level 4 and 7 - via Lievegeod we come into a much more complex picture where we again meet the words Cosmic, Earthly, Primary, secondary, Matter, & Forces and Calcium & Silica.

Best read what I have written under the 7 fold section. I first give Lievegeods diagram of primary and secondary processes, ala Goethe. In his book he outlines how the primary / cosmic/ Being and secondary/Earthly/ Manifest processes work in plant growth.

The primary are the building up forces while the Secondary Earthly forces are those we see manifesting in plant growth. These are outlined under Lievegeods chart. We can see from this that the last stage of seeding  occurs in the Saturn 2 process.

To get to what RS is talking about in the agriculture course we have to take a step through dimensions to come to what he says in lectures 2, 6 & 8 in the way he outlines the planets activity.

We need to take the archtypal picture of how the planets externally influence manifestion and take them one step further towards matter to the laws standing closer to yet behind matter. This is achieved by twisting a lemniscate turn into Lievegeods diagram ( see http://rimu.orcon.net.nz/garuda/books/index.html  Equinoctial and Seasonal Zodiacs)     The 'being" pole of Lievegeods diagram spins over. At this point we have what RS describes in Lecture 2 and Lecture 6 . In lecture 8 he provides the links for placing the 4 fold activities we have active in lec 2 & 6.

This lemniscating process RS uses can be found in his work on the 12 senses.

Wild stuff I know

Lievegeod describes the archetype, RS , in agriculture, describes the layer behind matter and a further spin of the planetary diagram and it will describe a significant patterning for organising more physical matter.  Thus we have these three layers of activity to be aware off.
Same planets , same processes just in a different relationship to one another, due to WHAT is being described. This is a basic phenomena of the Biodynamic / Astrological spiral as we move around the layers, the relationships change. Shs a wild and movable ride this cosmic science stuff.

The long and the short of it is, this is where Hugh and I converge and the misunderstanding shown between Hugh and Gill occurs.
I call the Silica process active in the atmosphere and moving towards the Earth ( at 4 fold and 7 fold), the Earthly Forces in lec 8 speak. These relate to the physical forces of ripening light and warmth, active in nature, in this present season. These are the Si forces active in the metabolic sphere of the plant - lec 8. They exist above the earth and work in with the Cosmic Calcium, active as homeopathic calcium in the atmospheres moisture- to make the metabolic area of the plant. If these Si forces are weak, then no ripening or seed set or photsynthesis, will occur. The above does not meet what is the thrust upwards from below, carried by the Cosmic as in primary / lievegeod outer 1, forces which have been embedded in the Earth pole, in the same way they are held in the maintanence of our brains. These are the Cosmic forces RS speaks of in lec 8. in the head nerve sense sphere and thus the Earth. This is where the archetype is condenseded in the seed, by the inward moving Earthly Si forces of the season, from the Summer to mid winter just passed. Mid winter is the beginning of the new cycle not  half way through. A season is not complete till the following mid winter. This new archetypal impulse (Saturn 1)  to  fulfil its purpose, of next the seed (Saturn 2), works upward in the spring, thrusting outwards to be met by the light and warmth of that season. If it is not there the plants may not even flower, especially cuccurbits. They will just grow leaves. The upward saturn 1 cosmic silica /forces are not met by the secondary earthly Saturn 2 forces and seed can not be set or ripened.

Similarly the Saturn 1 cosmic si force must be upward moving strongly via clay. If it does not then fruit will set, due to good Earthly Si outer planets 2 forces, but will not fill out to their possible size. We need both to be working well.

I must say I suspect 501 works to strengthen the Earthly Si 2 / atmospheric processes hence the ripening and shrinking as it pushes inwards so strongly, which leaves other siicates and definitely clay  to fuel the outward Si. Hence Quartz and Clay I see as a possible key polarity. There is no doubt Quartz can also form good tap roots as our trials have shown see Gill Coles report ( in case studies) which shows quartz crystal is probably the closest element to being a base carrier of both processes, however other elements such as clay (1) and energetically more dense silica sand (2) act as the activiators of the individual processes, which ride on quartz silica in our environment.

All very confusing I know. Oh to have some months to teach this stuff, to folks.

So Hugh and I are saying similiar things but mixing our words up.
The question is what are the silica elements moving upwards, minerals and so on, these are carried on my Primary Cosmic Silica stream. What are the elements moving downwards such as sugars these are carried on the Inward moving secondary Si 2 Earthly forces.

Its all in RS's lemniscate twist. Tricky stuff.

As I say I would love to have the opportunity to teach this in a proper course format.

My experiments as much as my theorising have led me to this conclusion. To date it is producing wonders. Yet I appreciate I may have it all wrong and some day may see it differently. Such is life.
