i find 
this important to say to everyone who speaks of coding standards, because i have 
seen too much of misguided pretentiousness and introduced ineficiencies under 
this gaurd :
please 
do take alook at some of the books about programming style when you come to your 
choices : 
    Steve Oualline  - C elements of style
and 
the eternal 
    The Practice of Programming by Rob Pike and Brian 
Kernighan (or TPOP as it called in the right circles). 
these 
ofcourse expect a level of maturity to appreciate what they are talking about 
but all the same, esp TPOP it will be well worththe money you spend. its got a 
rather good section on debugging too.
