well its not just microsoft's wishes anil, see they do put i lots of effort into
writing code and applications thanks to which someone walking into office saying ' i
dont know anything' is a week later being a productive member of a team developing
industrial strength n-tier distributed applications. 5 years back you's have to be a
bloody good self tught guru to be able to do that right ? so hats off to them for
their effort. coming to your need, they have been good enough to give us the actual
framework for free, you can do just about everything if you are creative enough. i
have been running framework sdk on my home machine for a long time. generally beta's
arent given free, they are charged for for a small token cost-of-media price. i
believe there is dearth of beta cds available. when you think about it many other
platforms and development environments actually only give you the equivalent of the
core tools and vanilla ides for free. anything that is business productivity tool, is
generally charged for. get the framework sdk - most of the popular comp mags and the
primer kit cd will be carrying it, and you can get any of the many free editors/ides
out there to get started. VS.net is generally sold at that cost 1) for the huge effort
put into it as well as 2) because it is a sheer business oriented tool. for almost
all the other investigative study and learning as well as real parctical apps the
framework sdk will suit your needs. (there are one or two things that i wish the sdk
distribution would let you do - maybe microsoft will address these) i hope this
changes your opinion a bit. do come for the next UG meeting on 27th and get your
primer kit cd (if there are any left) :). rosh
