The ExternalException and its derived classes have a property ErrorCode, the value of which is equivalent to HRESULT returned by most of the legacy windows applications. In this case it's going to be E_TIMEOUT , since the classes that derive from ExternalException, provide a mechanism (IErrorInfo interface) to set the HResult field programmatically, you can try associating your own exception handling class to get rid of Timeouts.
