You can build DataTable manually and add to DataSet. While calling the FILL method of DataAdapter it checks for the Connection is Alive or Not . if Not it automatically open the connection and get the Data from the DB and Fill in the DataSet. Actually Adapter acts as a bridge between DataSet and DataBase.
