Hi Vipin ,   your problem seems to be quite genuine , because validation fires for 
either of them on a postback , now in case you set causes validation property to be 
false , then for that button you need to validate eplicitly at the server , which is 
again not a very genuine way when such a good vaklidation controls are available .   i 
think i can have a roundabout suggestion , first of all most of the sites that u 
woulsd have even gone through doesn't have an option of username or password for a new 
user what they do is provide a register button for them so that they can be redirected 
to appropriate registration page and for that button you can set causes validation as 
false ,   or other option could be that u can check at the very beginning whether usr 
is a new or registered and then render or redirect to appropriate place as per ur 
logic ,   i hope it helps , please tell me in case some other complexity ,   regards ,
