Hey there   you can use the following approach to see the drive type, the following 
code is in VBS, you can easily convert it to VB.NET   Set objFSO = 
CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
Set colDrives = objFSO.Drives
For Each objDrive in colDrives
    msgbox(objdrive.drivetype & " " &objdrive.driveletter) 'Type 4 means CDROM
Next   alternatively you can write  set drive=objFSO.GetDrive("d:") 
MsgBox(drive.driveType)   Sumit
